The healthcare provider will ask questions about your lifestyle and may order blood, urine or other tests if you have risk factors for any diseases. Lifestyle questions may include:
- Asking about your safety habits (seatbelt use)
- Alcohol, tobacco and drug use
- Diet, weight and exercise
- Sexual activity
Based on your answers, it may also include counseling about reducing health risks.
During a routine wellness visit your weight, height and blood pressure will be checked.
- The healthcare provider will also review your immunization record and recommend updates, such as a flu shot.
- If you are a woman, the physical exam may also include a pelvic exam or other additional physical checks beyond your blood pressure, weight and height.
Most insurance plans cover wellness visits without a copay. However, you may incur additional charges if your healthcare provider:
- Needs to assess any problems or abnormal findings
- Advises additional testing or immunizations
